In the Artusi House, the task of linking together the spaces of the first gastronomic cultural center dedicated to Italian home cooking has been achieved with the prominent use of sandstone pavement. The N!Studio project features a richness of design elements and the installation of furnishings without jeopardizing the fluency of the narration. It is matched by the choice of materials in a prevailing shade of gray, softened by liquid effects and crystal reflections. The floor, in particular at the entrance of the gallery, uniformly absorbs these with the use of natural and artificial lighting and serigraphy. From the entrance court, it welcomes visitors with cubed molding motifs and with rhythmic inserts of light and shade elements leading to the exhibition panels beyond the glass threshold.
Shade elements and floor inserts complete the embroidery of the walking surface, in which tile slabs alternate between regular placement, with aligned vertices; overlapping placement, with ashlars aligned along a central line and more dynamically, with the overlapping reduced between the courses of the housing for the paving.
The stone unites with color the entrance and the library, the restaurant and the taste sampling space, as well as the main staircase connecting the floors. The choice of stone is the basis for determining the metal elements and their proper size and placement in the floor designs. The effect in the library reading areas differs from that in the designated tasting area, as shelving and furnishings were considered in the layout and treatment of the flooring.
The repeated suggestion of crystals or metals in minimum thickness adjacent to stone tile slabs creates a subtle tension running between the two materials. The use of the stone pavement leads to a basic soundness, and to a sense of stability and safety brought about by the physical presence of the natural material.
