Sacro e Profano

Paolo Armenise / Silvia Nerbi

Milano

Il Casone was one of the companies which played the leading roles in “Sacro e Profano”, a suggestive exhibition created within “Natural Stone Vision”, the transversal project launched for Carrara Marmotec 2008 with the purpose of restoring vigor and contents to the dialogue between the marble production structure and the world of architects and designers. In Zona Tortona, in Milan, more precisely at Via Stendhal 35, at the Giovannoni space, for the Fuori Salone, “Sacro e Profano”, organized by architects Paolo Armenise and Silvia Nerbi, shall give voice and body to an itinerary of requalification of the stone market within the contexts of creativity and project-making. The message is clear: stone materials at the service of design! Sacro e Profano was born as a provocation, but most of all it intends to become the interpretation inserted in a context of horizontal project-making in which profoundly different materials find a common expressive language in the project. These are stories of “matter”, as defined by architect Paolo Armenise, and among these different stories Il Casone shall also tells its own history, through pietra serena and its expressivity. A sophisticated expressivity, in this specific context, in the non-conventional, in a use of the stone studied to restore textures and experimental linings that are new and captivating. Pietra serena is used as lining in different areas, vertically and horizontally, to create a background scenario for different elements of design, these, too, produced using Il Casone sandstone. Signed by prestigious designers, these elements of design were presented in this occasion, such as the Acqua series, a system of containers and wash stands by Antonio Lupi, and the Achille table by L'Abbate. In terms of stone linings, we were struck by the particular cutting of the slabs/beams used: they were obtained from the discarded perimeter obtained from the normal cutting of slabs, prior to the final processing. The spirit with which Il Casone faces these events is that of one who loves to experiment, research, make available one's own creativity with the purpose of creating new, unheard-of solutions, as long as they originate other ideas, other project, visual and sensorial suggestions.
