On the occasion of the 25th Salone Internazionale dell’Esterno, Frassinago18 dressed the Rimini Exhibition’s covered spaces with segments of urban landscapes as if they had been snatched from reality, in a presentation that, while ephemeral, was able to recreate the experience of architectural space and the visions, aspirations and desires that come with it.
The concept for Sun 007 was perhaps contained in the double entendre of the title given to this staging-exhibition-installation, “A’Mare Paesaggi” (At the seaside/ to love the landscape), that is, the love for landscape and its contemplation, but also love of the sea.
The journey is a personal one, and not only involves but also envelopes the visitor, accompanying him on a journey through different contexts, in a continuous experience of diverse disciplines such as botany, architecture and interior design. The space is made to encircle through the materials and shapes, even if joined to the exterior environment, just as the colours and lights encourage us to interact with the space, rather than stop at simple contemplation.
The flooring slabs create a continuous layout, but -- just as what happens when walking along a path in nature -- sometimes it is interrupted or joined with other materials that provide different feedback to the senses of sight, smell, touch and hearing, restoring us to a heterogeneous and kaleidoscopic reality, despite this being an artificial space. The patterns of grooves in the flooring create a perfect, complementary geometry which nourishes the idea of a continuous thread, allowing one’s gaze to continue without obstacles.
The stone used for the visitors’ paths, resembles other materials, such as resin, steel or wood; this sudden comparison emphasises the stone’s own properties of durability and monumentality.
The materials, united with certain, specific design objects, are able to create impressions of a landscape: thus, in a split second we pass from a hilly environment to the sensation of finding ourselves on the terrace of a Mediterranean island, with the illusion of home that makes us forget we are in the midst of a space intended to last only for a limited time.
