From nest to shell. Designers, companies and cities

news SUN

Il Casone is among the protagonists of the From nest to shell event, which examines stone urban furniture and involves designers, businesses and local authorities. Locating a space within each city, the objective is to investigate the relationship between new planning design and an existing context of particular historical or artistic interest. The Zot project, carried out by Il Casone, has been fine-tuned by architect Pierluigi Molteni for Piazza della Repubblica in Tresigallo (in the province of Ferrara). The idea for this piazza, which is large and not very appealing for socializing, uses a project that visualizes both the space and its use, making it livable - an initiative which, first and foremost, creates various 'spots': places to take a break, wait or meet someone, and it is an initiative that could spill out into the neighboring streets and urban parks. From a single stone block, a limited range of combinations that are exhaustive in terms of shapes is extracted and the combination of these shapes makes up a potentially continuous ribbon, able to create a series of situations to host urban to-ings and fro-ings. The furnishings in burnished steel open up new possibilities for its use. The almost cement-like materiality of the Pietra Serena is combined with paving materials and takes away the ‘monument’ element from the stone, emphasizing its 'service' role.
